Designing Sherish: A Private Photo App for Secure Memory Sharing

Brand Strategy, UX/UI Design, Mobile App & Dashboard Design

Sherish was a premium photo storage and sharing app designed for users seeking a private, secure alternative to mainstream public platforms. Unlike traditional cloud storage services, Sherish prioritized privacy, ease of use, and cross-platform syncing, making it an ideal solution for parents, families, and digitally savvy seniors who wanted to preserve and share their most cherished memories.

As the UX/UI designer, I helped shape the app’s user flow, interface, and overall experience, ensuring it met the needs of its target audience while offering seamless navigation and intuitive functionality.

Challenge

  • Addressing Privacy Concerns – Many users were uncomfortable storing personal photos on public cloud platforms, fearing data breaches or loss of ownership.

  • Simplifying Photo Management – Users needed a simple, organized, and private way to store, sync, and share their photos across devices.

  • Creating an Intuitive Experience – The app had to be accessible to a wide range of users, including seniors who may be less familiar with complex tech interfaces.

My Role & Approach

Brand Strategy & UX Design

  • Developed user flows and wireframes that simplified the process of uploading, organizing, and sharing photos securely.

  • Designed an intuitive, visually engaging interface that catered to the 30+ audience, ensuring ease of use across all devices.

  • Created a dashboard experience that allowed users to manage their photos effortlessly, set privacy controls, and customize sharing preferences.

Mobile App & Website Design

  • Designed a seamless mobile experience that prioritized quick access to photos, easy sharing, and automatic backup functionality.

  • Developed a responsive marketing website to communicate the app’s features, pricing, and security benefits.

  • Ensured cross-platform compatibility, making the app accessible on iOS while supporting future scalability.

Results & Impact

  • Strong Early Adoption – Sherish users shared over 100,000 images within the first month after its May 2015 launch.

  • Rapid Growth – The company experienced 200% growth per month in 2015, demonstrating the market demand for secure, private photo-sharing solutions.

  • Monetized Model – Launched in the iTunes App Store with a subscription-based pricing model ($4.99/month or $49.99/year), providing a sustainable revenue stream.

ReLEVANCE

Although Sherish is no longer active, and the developers chose to discontinue the app, this project remains a strong case study in mobile app UX/UI design. It demonstrates my ability to:

  • Create user-friendly, privacy-focused digital experiences

  • Develop intuitive user flows for mobile applications

  • Design for a diverse audience, including tech-savvy seniors

  • Balance branding, functionality, and business goals in an app ecosystem

Sherish showcases how thoughtful UX/UI design can enhance user engagement and retention, making it a valuable addition to my portfolio for future app design and digital experience projects.
