Illustration Friday: Stitch

This acrylic painting is a visual expression of my musical experience of the "Rite of Spring". Synesthesia is a dual sensory experience. An impact on one of the senses causes a simultaneous response from another sense, as a visual response from a sound. Color and tone are the essence of painting as pitch and rhythm are of music. I stitched this musical painting together using four hot press boards under a black matte board.

The "Rite of Spring" by Igor Stravinksy is a series of episodes depicting a wild pagan spring ritual. Wise elders are seated in a circle and are observing the dance before the death of the girl whom they are offering as a sacrifice to the god of Spring in order to gain his benevolence.
