The Art of Assemblage
I started making assemblages and altered collage art in college. Assemblage is the 3-dimensional cousin of collage. The origin of the word can be traced back to the early 1950s, when Jean Dubuffet created a series of collages, which he titled assemblages d'empreintes. My greatest influences have been both Marcel Duchamp and Pablo Picasso, who had been working with found objects for many years prior to Dubuffet. My inspiration for this assemblage comes from vintage toys, miniatures and travel. This handpainted paper mache suitcase has a lighted billboard on top.
